Bio/Admin History: The B.C. Deep Sea Fishermen's Union received its charter from the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada in 1932. Prior to 1932, the union was part of the International Deep Sea Fishermen's Union of the Pacific, and agreements recorded date back to 1916 with the Fishing Vessel Owners Association of that time. The B.C. Deep Sea Fishermen's Union helped establish the Prince Rupert Fishermen's Cooperative.

Bio/Admin History: On December 1, 1942, the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) leased the radio station CFPR from Clarence H. Insulander and partners who had formed the Northwest Broadcast and Service Company Ltd. and who had been operating CFPR since October 1935. The CBC bought the station outright in June 1953 (CBC's second manned station in B.C.). They have operated out of the Stiles Place location since September 1967.

Bio/Admin History: J. Dennis Allen was born in England in 1880 and came to Canada in 1904. He settled in Prince Rupert in 1907 and owned a photography (J.D. Allen Photographic Company) and stationery business. He was one of the first business enterprises to capture scenes of early Prince Rupert in his line of picture postcards. Allen enlisted in 1914 and served overseas in World War I. He was married in 1918 and after the war, he was proprietor of the Denny Allen Company until he moved south in 1949. Denny Allen died in Victoria in 1966.

Bio/Admin History: The first Land Registry Office in Prince Rupert was built in 1908 and stood on the corner of Second Ave. and Fourth Street beside two other Provincial Government buildings. The Provincial offices were previously located in Port Simpson. Fire destroyed the Registry Office in November 1911 but all the records were saved. The new Courthouse was officially opened by Thomas Patullo on January 23, 1923, and housed the Land Registry Office until 1993, when it moved to Third Avenue and finally Prince George in 1997. The office covered land transactions for Cassiar district, Coast Range 3, 4 and 5 which includes Smithers, Burns Lake down to Bella Bella.
Scope/Content: The fonds consists of 45 land and township registers, tax sale registers, tax sale land deeds, land tax forfeiture correspondence, alphabetical list of landowners, index of land liens, Owners Index of Indefeasible Fees, etc. pertaining to Cassiar and Coast Range 3, 4 and 5.

Bio/Admin History: R.G. Large was born in Bella Bella, B.C. He graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto and was a medical doctor at Port Simpson, Hazelton, and Prince Rupert. Large was a past president of the Prince Rupert Chamber of Commerce, past president of the B.C. Division of the Canadian Medical Association, and past Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of B.C. He was chairman of the Prince Rupert School Board for 12 years and served as an alderman on Prince Rupert City Council. In 1977, he was made Freeman of the City of Prince Rupert. He was a historian and author of four books: "Soogwilis", "Skeena - River of Destiny", "Prince Rupert: A Gateway to Alaska", and "Drums and Scalpel".
Scope/Content: The fonds consists of Large's records relating to his writing of several books on Prince Rupert and area. The fonds includes correspondence, reference files and some collected material, including the Police Day Book for the B.C. Provincial Police at Port Essington, B.C. (1909), minute book, inventory book and annual reports of the Port Simpson General Hospital, including minute book of the Women's Auxiliary, and the minute book of the Prince Rupert Medical Society (1921).

Bio/Admin History: Robert Martineau worked for an Ontario firm (Rayner Construction Ltd.) which worked on the construction of Highway 16. They built 15 miles of the road from the Kyex River west towards Prince Rupert. The highway construction commenced quickly after the request by U.S. and Canadian military authorities for a back-up land route in case of a Japanese invasion on the North Coast after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 during World War II. This was Martineau's war effort as he was exempt from military service. Martineau lived in Port McNicholl, Ontario.
Scope/Content: The fonds consists of black and white photographs taken from 1942 to 1944 during the construction of Highway 16 between Tyee and Skeena. The photos depict the terrain, conditions, camps, men and equipment during construction along the Skeena River.
