History/Biography: Brian Hadland was born in Prince Rupert and worked as a firefighter at the Prince Rupert Fire Department from 1976 until he retired in 2006. While at the Fire Department he was instrumental in starting up the Fire Museum adjacent to the Fire Hall.
Scope & Content: Collection includes photographs of people in and around Prince Rupert, totem poles at Massett and Yan on the Queen Charlotte Islands and Port Simpson. People depicted include Sydney and Erna Hamblin, Winnie Black (nee Hall), Kay Smith, Stan Seville, Maurice Bridges, Bill Wilson-Murray, a police search party with a boat, George Johnstone, Nora Johnstone, Freida Linzey, Phil Linzey, Peter Black, Hester Black, Jack Judge, John "Jack" L. MacIntosh, his wife Margaret (Duthie) and their son John "Jack" Alexander Duthie, Police Chief Vickers standing on Fulton Street with the Scandinavian Rooms in the background, Bill Murray, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Anne and Mrs. Shelford when the royal family visited for the opening of the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital. The series also includes two photographs depicting a fire truck parked outside of King's Confectionery and the Helgerson Block in the 700 block of Third Avenue West, with the Alder Block in the background on Sixth Street. There is also a photograph of the restored REO Fire Engine out front of the Prince Rupert Fire Museum, and two of the fire department staff, ca. 1950s, posing with Mayor George Hills, and a photograph of the snag scow Essington II. Included is a VHS video filmed by Ron Marchand showing the CN dock fire in 1972 and the Baptist Church demolition.
