History/Biography: The School District No. 52, serving Prince Rupert and the outlying area, was incorporated April 1, 1946. The incorporation was the result of a provincial consolidation of existing school districts into 74 large administrative units based on The Cameron Report on Education, in which Dr. Cameron recommended a restructuring of the province into large, regionally defined administrative units to be called school districts. School District No. 52 (Prince Rupert) serves the primary communities of Hartley Bay, Port Edward, Lax Kwa’alaams, Metlakatla and Prince Rupert. This includes two secondary schools, six elementary schools, one storefront distributed learning site and one "on reserve" school (Hartley Bay: K-12).

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of school registers, Department of Education Inspector of Schools reports and teacher inspector reports. The school registers are for schools at Port Essington, 1909-1912, 1915-1919, 1922-1926, 1930-1933, 1949-1951 and 1955-1962, Port Simpson 1901-1905, 1910-1912, 1915-1919, 1923-1926 and 1926-1940, Oona River, 1934-1938, 1963, 1964-1974, Inverness, 1952-1954, Osland, 1929-1951 and Digby Island, 1942-1971. The Teacher Inspection reports are for 1937. The inspector of school reports include visits to Borden Street School, Kitsumgallum, Osland, Mackenzie at Bella Coola, Hagensborg, Nootsatsum, Lower Bella Coola, Booth Memorial, Inverness Cannery, Sunnyside Cannery, Haysport, Digby Island, Queen Charlotte City, Skidegate, Sandspit, Port Clements, Massett, Oceanic Cannery, King Edward High School, Prince Rupert High School, Alice Arm, Usk, Premier, Stewart, Oona River, Port Simpson, Copper City, Remo, Ocean Falls, Port Essington, Seal Cove, Coast Logging at Namu, Claxton Cannery, Tlell and Lakelse Valley. Also included are Annual Written Examination Results (1916, 1920, 1927-1968) on Dept. of Education Forms E6, E7, E 14, E15, E18, E21, Booth Memorial master transcript sheets for 1955-1956, and Prince Rupert Secondary School (PRSS) student transcripts for Grades 11 & 12 (1982-1985).
